Krill have large black eyes and are mostly transparent apart from a bright red tint on the back of their shell. They are considered as the most successful animal species on the planet. Adult Antarctic krill are approximately six centimetres in length and weigh over a gram. There is estimated to be about roughly 500 tonnes of Krill in the Southern Ocean. As they get older they start to travel in large schools/groups. It is sad that they can fit over 1 Thousand Krill in one square metre. Most of the time, they stay deep in the ocean during the day, and come to the surface at night. Female Antarctic Krill lay up to 10,000 eggs, sometimes more than once in a season!
